Declan Mangan... a retiring personality?

Declan Mangan, is well known, and widely respected for his leadership, as well as his acting and singing talents as the Dame in Killorglin's famous traditional Panto. He has now written a musical which creates a fascinating picture of a true Irish legend, Johnny Patterson, the Rambler from Clare. Declans tribute to the 'Rambler from Clare' is the story of a man with not only an exceptional comic wit, but also that rare musical gift that can create melodies and lyrics that survive long after the death of their author. It is the story of a man whose songs and humour touched not thousands, but millions over the years, and who though he only ever set out to amuse and entertain, died tragically, violently and prematurely at the tender age of forty-nine. .

Mick Jones

Mick Jones, our Musical Director, was given the task of composing, compiling and arranging the musical material. As well as adapting some of Patterson's best loved songs, some original material was needed to progress the story in Declan's script. Mick arrived in the Killorglin area in 2004 aiming to give himself 'a well earned rest'. That plan didn't last for long as his amazing zest for all things musical was quickly recognised. As a composer of memorable melodies his contribution to our World Premier has been outstanding and his tunes fit very comfortably alongside Johnny’s originals.

Oliver Hurley

Director, Oliver Hurley, is regarded as Kerry’s foremost theatrical entrepreneur. He starred for several years as a dancer in Siamsa before taking over as  their Artistic Director. He then started his own production group and has produced many award winning shows with several musical societies, including Tralee, Killarney and Shannon. He has won several “AIMS? awards, all richly deserved; and most recently packed out Siamsa Tire with his stunning production of 'Titanic'.

Jackie O'Mahoney

Jackie O'Mahony is an exceptionally talented choreographer with bundles of energy. She started her career with Siamsa but has since branched out on her own. She has worked with several groups throughout Kerry, and is always particularly welcome in Killorglin where she excels in Panto, both as a choreographer and a hilarious comedienne.

Costumes  Anne Mangan, renowned costumier of Killorglin Panto has been invaluable with her assistance in getting the right 'look' for this 19th Century Musical Drama.
